Article history: Received on: 31/07/2015 Revised on: 11/08/2015 Accepted on: 20/08/2015 Available online: 24/08/2015 Free radicals and oxidative stress are recognized as important factors in the biology of aging as well as in many age-related diseases. Dietary antioxidant plays a potential role in the reduction of age-related diseases. Many medicinal plants are rich source of antioxidants and promote longevity. Drosophila is a suitable animal model to study ageing and oxidative study. This study evaluated the antioxidant property of Asparagus racemosus on longevity and G6PD activity in Drosophila melanogaster. The analyses were carried out in stress and non stress conditions. Longevity increased almost by 29% at low concentration and 41% at high concentration in extract supplemented flies. G6PD level was significantly increased in extract supplemented larval stages than adults. The antioxidant property of Asparagus racemosus increases the larval G6PD activity thus; it extends the lifespan in adults.

Anti-inflammatory activity of Asparagus racemosus and its in-vitro cultures
To determine the pharmacological (Anti-inflammatory) potential of in-vitro cultures of Asparagus racemosus. Anti-inflammatory activity of methanolic extracts of shoot, root their calli and genetically transformed shoot culture was performed using carrageenan induced rat paw edema method. The albino rats were treated orally with two dosage (500 or 1000 mg/kg body weight of rats) of drugs, one ho...

متن کاملConcentration dependent effect of morphine, aspirin, capsaicin and chili pepper hydro alcoholic extract on thermal and chemical pain model in fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)
Introduction: Pain research using animal models is related to ethical concerns, so invertebrates and insects have been recommended by researchers. In the present study, the nociceptive and antinociceptive effects of capsaicin, aspirin, morphine and chili extract were examined using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as an alternative for rodent pain model. Methods: Stage 3 of larvae and ad...
متن کاملJNPA. XXVI(1) 2012 Phytochemical studies and in vitro activity of Asparagus racemosus
Phytochemical and biological screening of root of Asparagus racemosus was studied. The brine shrimp bioassay of its various extracts showed that the methanol (MeOH) extract was biologically active. The column chromatography of hexane, acetone and methanol extracts resulted in the isolation of 9hexadecanoic acid-9-octadecenylester (Z,Z), β-Sitosterol, stigmasterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside and dio...
متن کاملAntistress activity of ethanolic extract of Asparagus racemosus Willd roots in mice.
Ethanolic extract of the roots of A. racemosus improved the stress tolerance in chemical writhing test and swimming endurance test at all the doses as compared to stress control group. Restraint stress induced elevation of blood glucose, triglyceride and cholesterol levels were significantly lowered by pretreatment with extract. Moreover, stress induced variations in levels of lipid peroxidatio...
